Making a Difference: Supporting The Volunteers for Palliative Care
At The Lottery Office, we strongly believe in positively impacting the community by supporting fundamental causes close to our hearts. We are proud to donate to Volunteers for Palliative Care (VPC). This non-profit organisation provides critical care and support to individuals with life-limiting illnesses and their families in Australia.
Palliative care is an essential service that aims to improve the quality of life for people with life-limiting illnesses. VPC’s dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to support those with palliative care needs by providing in-home care, emotional support, and respite care for their families. The volunteers’ work is invaluable, and they help make a difficult time more comfortable for patients and their families.
A VPC representative explains, “Our community NGO/Charity began in 1990 because our community lobbied the then NSW Government in the 1980s for a palliative care service. The first palliative care service in Maitland was ours. A non-clinical, predominantly volunteer-based workforce trained to support individuals and families of our LGA under palliative care. Our clinical team began five years later.”
As a non-profit organisation, VPC relies on donations to keep its office open and its volunteers active in the community. All their services, including home respite, companionship, and specialised medical treatments, are provided at no cost to the families they support. VPC’s commitment to providing free services to its community is a testament to its dedication and impact on the lives of those they support.
