Winning Combinations:
To win FutureBall, you need to match the drawn numbers across two separate pools:
- Main Pool: 6 numbers from 1-34
- FutureBall: 1 FutureBall number from 1-3
Division 1: Unique Number Combinations
What makes Division 1: Every possible combination of 6 numbers + FutureBall is sold only once per draw. This means if your 6 numbers + FutureBall is drawn, you're the only winner and guaranteed the full $1 million prize.
To win Division 1: Match all 6 main numbers + the FutureBall
Prize: AU$1,000,000 (never shared)
Your odds: 1 in 4,034,712
Example: If the winning numbers are 5, 12, 18, 23, 29, 31 + FutureBall 2, only one ticket in the entire draw can have this exact combination.
| Division | Match Required | Sharing System | Odds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Division 1 | 6 Main Numbers + FutureBall | Not shared | 1 in 4,034,712 |
Divisions 2-4:
Unlike Division 1, multiple players can choose the same winning number combinations for Divisions 2-4. If several people match the same winning number combinations, they share the prize pool equally.
| Division | Match Required | Sharing System | Odds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Division 2 | 6 Main Numbers + no FutureBall | Shared between winners | 1 in 2,017,356 |
| Division 3 | 4 Main Numbers + no FutureBall | Shared between winners | 1 in 230.37 |
| Division 4 | 3 Main Numbers + Futureball | Shared between winners | 1 in 62.58 |
Example of prize sharing: If Division 2 has a $50,000 prize pool and 2 people match 6 numbers, each winner receives $25,000 ($50,000 ÷ 2 winners).
The key difference: Division 1 uses a unique number combination system ensuring one winner per draw, whilst Divisions 2-4 work like other leading lotteries where multiple tickets can have identical winning number combinations.
What Happens When All Possible Combinations Are Sold?
Once every combination is purchased, the draw closes. No more entries can be bought for that draw.
How FutureBall Differs From Other Lotteries
Unlike other lotteries where tickets can be purchased right up until the draw, FutureBall operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Each unique number combination can only be sold once therefore when all combinations are allocated, the draw is full.
Understanding Combinations
The available combination pool decreases as entries are purchased per draw. How quickly combinations sell depends on player demand. Once all combinations are gone, the draw closes and no further activity occurs until the draw takes place.
What Happens if There Is No Winner?
If there's no Division 1 winner in a draw (which can only happen if the draw isn't fully sold), the $1 million prize doesn't roll over to the next draw. Instead, it goes into the Prize Security Fund, and will be paid out in a future ‘superdraw’ or added to lower divisions to boost prizes. This means every regular draw maintains its fixed $1 million Division 1 prize, regardless of whether the previous draw had a winner or not.
For Divisions 2-4, any unwon prize money also flows into the Prize Security Fund rather than rolling over. This ensures consistent prize structures for every single draw – you'll always know exactly what you're playing for.
