When it comes to outright massive jackpots, the world record-holding US Powerball stands head and shoulders above the rest. It’s configured for huge jackpots, with prizes that have reached into the billions on several occasions. The US Powerball doesn’t mess around. It’s a no-nonsense lottery that’s all about big numbers. Big jackpots, big lower division prizes, lots of prize divisions and the chance to boost non-jackpot prizes by up to a maximum of 10 times. It’s no wonder it’s one of the most popular lotteries in the world.
When players at The Lottery Office buy a ticket in our USA Power Lotto, we use the same lottery numbers our players select and purchase a matching ticket in a US Powerball draw. The USA Power Lotto is exclusive to players with The Lottery Office.

US Powerball Quick Facts
There are some key US Powerball facts that players should know:
- We match our USA Power Lotto with tickets in the US Powerball. This means that when you buy a ticket for the USA Power Lotto, The Lottery Office purchases a matching ticket in a US Powerball draw in the USA.
- If the US Powerball ticket wins a prize in the draw, we collect the prize money on the ticket we bought.
- If the prize money is less than AUD$10,000 for your matching winning ticket, we pay the same amount as the prize value to your Lottery Office account, as soon as the results of the draw have been finalised. From here withdrawals can be actioned immediately by the winner.
- If the prize money is worth AUD$10,000 or higher, we contact you once the results of the draw have been finalised. This is to arrange the payment of your prize to you. We take no commissions and charge no fees on any winnings, ever.
- The USA Power Lotto is available to Australian and New Zealand residents and allows players to win from the draws of the US Powerball.

History Of US Powerball and USA Power Lotto
The US Powerball was first drawn over 30 years ago, way back in 1992.
There have been multiple format changes over the years, and since 2015 players are required to select 5 main numbers from a pool of 1 to 69 and an additional ‘Powerball’ from a separate pool of 1 to 26. Back in 2001 the ‘Power Play’ Multiplier feature was introduced, giving players the chance to boost their wins.
Until August 2021 there were two draws each week, but since that date there are now three draws each week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays (AEST). The minimum jackpot is set at USD$20 million.
The Lottery Office's USA Power Lotto has existed since September 2018 and shares exactly the same features as its matching lottery, the US Powerball, including prizes of the same value. The USA Power Lotto gives players the chance to participate in a world class lottery from Australia and New Zealand.

US Powerball’s World Record Jackpot
The US Powerball is officially the holder of the world’s biggest ever jackpot in a national lottery, as verified by the Guinness Book of Records. An astonishing USD$2.05 billion (AUD$2.95 billion) was won in November 2022. 30-year-old Californian native Edwin Castro was found to be one of the luckiest people of all time as he staked his claim to the sole winning ticket. As a condition of accepting the record-breaking jackpot, he was required to publicly reveal his identity, as per the rules of the California Lottery.
Upon receiving his lump-sum prize he wasted no time racking up some lavish buys, with a USD$25 million Hollywood Hills mansion, a USD$4 million bachelor pad and a vintage Porsche amongst his first big purchases.
The mind-blowing prize has certainly garnered the mild-mannered Castro some unwanted attention, and he has been sued by another man claiming to be the real winner of the prize. This would not be the case for jackpot winners and other players with The Lottery Office, as they are not required to reveal their identity and may remain anonymous. The guarantee of anonymity helps ensure safety and privacy for our lottery winners. Additionally, our winners’ tickets are tied to their online Lottery Office accounts, meaning nobody else can dispute your winnings.
Unlike with some other online lottery companies, winners with The Lottery Office aren’t required to travel overseas to collect jackpot prizes themselves. Because we collect the prize on our matching tickets ourselves, and then pay winners the exact same amount that we collect, there is no need for winners to go through the massive hassle of international travel and dealing with international lottery authorities. There is no need to put yourself at risk and visit the state head office of the official foreign lottery to claim the win, as you have won our matching lottery here in Australia. We take care of the whole process for all of our winners.
The Lottery Office is licenced by the Northern Territory Government of Australia and is subject to continuous auditing.

US Powerball Prizes
Just like the USA Mega Lotto, our USA Power Lotto and matching US Powerball have 9 prize divisions in total, with winning a prize as simple as matching the single drawn Power number.
At the other end of the scale, the first division jackpot starts at a minimum AUD$25 million and the second division prize is worth an impressive AUD$1.4 million.
Aside from the jackpot prize, which changes each draw, all other prizes are the same every time and don’t fluctuate, unlike in most other lotteries. This lets players know which prizes will be on offer for each draw. There is a 1 in 25 chance that a given game will win a prize, meaning that the more games you have in play for a draw, the higher your chances of winning are.
When players win from a draw of US Powerball with a USA Power Lotto jackpot prize, they have two options:
- The jackpot prize can be taken as a single lump sum payment.
- The jackpot prize can be taken as an immediate payment, and then 29 subsequent payments, received annually. For players that feel that a massive lump of cash might be too much to handle, this could be an option worth considering.
-
US Powerball Multiplier: Boost non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times
The Lottery Office offers players an interesting feature called the ‘Multiplier’ which is available to add to USA Power Lotto games, which in turn is available for matching US Powerball games. When you’ve opted to add the Multiplier for $3.45, any non-jackpot prizes you win can be multiplied by up to 10 times! This means that a division 3 win could be worth up to AUD$70,000 – a huge amount for division 3.
Prior to each USA Power Lotto draw, the Multiplier number is selected at random. This process decides how many times non-jackpot wins will be multiplied by when players purchase the Multiplier option. The available Multiplier numbers are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5 and 10x.
There are two restrictions on the USA Power Lotto Multiplier:
- The 10x Multiplier is only available when the jackpot prize is worth less than the equivalent of USD$150 million.
- When won with the Multiplier, the second division prize will be worth AUD$2.8 million, regardless of the Multiplier number that was drawn.
When you next play USA Power Lotto, it might be worth considering playing the Multiplier. It could prove to be a wise decision, if you win a non-jackpot prize.
Here are the prizes that can be won when the Multiplier is in play:
Match Your prize if the Multiplier number is*: 2 3 4 5 10 5 + 0 $2,000,000 $2,000,000 $2,000,000 $2,000,000 $2,000,000 4 + 1 $100,000 $150,000 $200,000 $250,000 $500,000 4 + 0 $200 $300 $400 $500 $1000 3 + 1 $200 $300 $400 $500 $1000 3 + 0 $14 $21 $28 $35 $70 2 + 1 $14 $21 $28 $35 $70 1 + 1 $8 $12 $16 $20 $40 0 + 1 $8 $12 $16 $20 $40 * All prize amounts are in USD. USA Power Lotto Player Accidentally Wins Extra $820,000
A Sydney player found out the power of the USA Power Lotto Multiplier when he unintentionally selected the option when playing his games. Astonishingly, he won a division 2 prize, worth over AUD$820,000 after US taxes. You can imagine his surprise when he found out that he’d added the Multiplier, taking his total prize to AUD$1.65 million! Not a bad time to make a mistake! As a restaurateur heavily affected by Covid, it couldn’t have come at a better time. The win saved his business and allowed him to remain open throughout the pandemic. He won his prize with a Quick Play entry, which instantly and randomly assigns lotto numbers to games. Players also have the option of selecting their own numbers, should they wish to.

Can You Play US Powerball in Australia?
It’s easy for Australians and New Zealanders to play to win from the draws of the US Powerball. You just need to be a resident of either Australia or New Zealand, be over the age of 18 and have an account with The Lottery Office.
Once you’ve signed up for free, you can play to win from the draws of the US Powerball, with our USA Power Lotto. Firstly, select your 5 main numbers and your 1 Power Number. You can choose your own numbers, or you can try a Quick Play and we’ll choose them for you at random. Remember, random numbers have the exact same statistical chances of winning a prize as numbers that were selected by a person. If you wish, once your games are in your cart, you can add the Multiplier.
Next, enter your payment details and we’ll take care of the rest. We’ll send you a confirmation email and a Lottery Office ticket, once we’ve purchased the matching ticked in the US Powerball draw overseas.
There are three draws each week you can enter (Tuesdays, Thursday and Sundays AEST), giving you plenty of regular opportunities to win a prize.
-
USA Power Lotto Multidraws
If you’re the kind of player that prefers to ‘set and forget’ their lottery play, Multi Draws could be for you. You can pre-purchase entry into 2, 3, 5, 10 or 20 upcoming draws. When choosing your numbers simply select how many draws you’d like your games to run for. At checkout, you’ll be charged according to how many draws you opted to enter.
By default, every time you buy a ticket, you are purchasing entry into a single lottery draw.
-
USA Power Lotto Syndicates
Lotto Syndicates let like-minded players pool their money to buy lotto games in bulk. By sharing the costs, Syndicates allow people to buy more games, increasing the chances of winning a prize for everyone taking part.
Each Syndicate has a specific number of shares for sale, and players can choose how many shares they buy. The more shares you buy, the higher the cost, but the more money that you’ll win if the Syndicate wins prizes.
When a Syndicate wins prizes, those prizes are divided by the quantity of shares in the syndicate. We automatically pay out syndicate prizes after the draw process has been completed if the prize is under AUD$10,000. If the prize is AUD$10,000 or more, we’ll be in contact to organise the payment of your prize.
When the US Powerball and USA Power Lotto jackpot has reached a substantial amount, we usually create a syndicate for it, letting players increase their chance of winning a share in the jackpot.
The Syndicates we offer are constantly changing, so check regularly to see if there are any that appeal to you.
-
USA Power Lotto Systems
USA Power Lotto Systems are a popular feature amongst serious lottery players. Usually, in the rules of the US Powerball (the same rules that the USA Power Lotto is based on) players can only select 5 main numbers and 1 Power Number. To add a new dimension to lottery play, The Lottery Office enables players to select a different quantity of numbers. Instead of 5 main numbers and 1 Power Number, there are several other options available, such as choosing just 4 main numbers, 10 main numbers and even removing the need to select a Power Number altogether!
Each different option has a different cost and gives people more chances to win when compared to a standard lotto game.
For example, our System 8 gives players the ability to choose 8 main numbers. This is the equivalent of 56 standard lotto games, meaning a single System 8 gives 56 chances to win a prize, whereas a standard lotto game gives just 1.
For every System game played, we buy the equivalent standard games in the matching US Powerball.

When are the US Powerball Drawn and USA Power Lotto drawn?
The US Powerball has 3 draws each week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays (AEST). The USA Power Lotto draw takes place in Darwin and follows straight after the overseas draw and always has identical winning main numbers, Power Number and prizes.
Entry into each USA Power Lotto draw closes before the overseas US Powerball draw takes place. Ticket sales stop at 10am (AEST).
If you purchase a ticket for the draw after the close time, the ticket will automatically go into the next upcoming draw.

Can I play US Powerball in Australia?
Australians and New Zealanders can play to win from the draws of the US Powerball by buying a USA Power Lotto ticket. We buy a ticket in a US Powerball draw overseas, with the same lotto numbers. If the overseas ticket wins any prizes, we collect them ourselves. Then we pay the same amount to the value of the prizes to you.
Can foreigners play US Powerball?
Visitors to the USA can play US Powerball, but you don’t need to go to America; Australians and New Zealanders can play the Lottery Office’s USA Power Lotto to access prizes exactly the same size as those in the overseas draws.
How do you win US Powerball?
There are no tried-and-true methods that guarantee a player a win in the US Powerball, or in any lottery for that matter. All licensed lotteries are games of chance and there is no way to predict what numbers will win. The most effective way to increase your chances of winning any lottery is to enter more games into a draw. Each game is another chance to win.
