The Lottery Office provides much-needed funds to the Perth Homeless Support Group
The Perth Homeless Support Group (PHSG) is a not-for-profit charitable organisation that seeks to assist those who are experiencing homelessness in Perth.
Founded in 2014, the charity works to relieve the stress of those experiencing homelessness by providing basic supplies to reduce begging and antisocial behaviour.
As a result of COVID-19, PHSG is undertaking weekly non-contact drop-offs of food packages to support its network of more than 220 people experiencing food insecurity and homelessness. Since March, the charity has distributed 190 care packages.
The Lottery Office has made a $10,000 donation to Perth Homeless Support Group to enable it to continue its critical service, providing relief to hundreds of people in need during the COVID-19 crisis.
The Lottery Office’s donation will go towards Medi One supplies, critical to protecting the health of Perth’s already vulnerable homeless population.
The Lottery Office CEO Jaclyn Wood said supporting the charity sector is critical, especially during COVID-19 pandemic.
“The pandemic has created numerous challenges for the charity sector and with in-person fundraising events no longer a viable option, it is important we do what we can to support these services,” Ms Wood said.
“The PHSG has done a phenomenal job in pivoting its services to abide by social distancing measures and provide the City with much-needed supplies and social connection.”
The Lottery Office urges anyone interested in donating to visit the Perth Homeless Support Group website.
