The Lottery Office Donates $10,000 to Lifeline’s SOS Support Groups
The Lottery Office is proud to have recently donated $10,000 to Lifeline’s SOS (Survivors of Suicide) Support Groups in Central Coast and Newcastle. The donation will support those who have lost loved ones to suicide and contribute to this vital cause.
Lifeline Direct Limited (LLD) is a subsidiary of Lifeline Australia, providing suicide prevention and crisis support services across NSW and Victoria. The LLD works collaboratively with Lifeline Centres to share administrative and support services, enabling the Centres to lead in service delivery and training.
People who have lost loved ones to suicide face unique challenges compared to those who have lost loved ones to other causes. Participating in a support group with others who have gone through the same experience can provide a psychologically safe space to talk openly and connect with others who understand their struggles. These support groups aim to help reduce the risk of complicated grief and suicidal thoughts.
The funding from The Lottery Office will ensure the SOS groups have stability and certainty for the next year of meetings and will contribute to establishing a new SOS group in Maitland. In addition, the $10,000 donation will cover the cost of the group facilitator, venue hire, and associated costs.
Nonprofit charities like Lifeline’s SOS Support Groups rely heavily on donations to continue providing their essential services.
