Harrison’s Little Wings: Supporting Women With Poor Pregnancy Outcomes

The Lottery Office is committed to making a difference in people’s lives and communities across Australia. Recently, Harrison’s Little Wings, a non-profit organisation that supports women diagnosed with poor or fatal outcome pregnancies, contacted us after seeing how we have helped other national charities.

According to the Harrison’s Little Wings website, “Harrison’s Little Wings is the only organisation in the world that provides comprehensive support to families who have been given a poor or fatal diagnosis during pregnancy.”

Furthermore, “Harrison’s Little Wings is a not-for-profit organisation that supports women and their families who have received a poor diagnosis in their pregnancy or Mum has a Maternal health issue that puts her life or her baby’s life at risk. Mothers and Fathers and their families who find themselves having a complex pregnancy can feel extremely uncertain, scared, worried and at times overwhelmed. We aim to hold hands with the Mum’s and Dad’s as well as their family and provide resources, peer support and practical support through their pregnancy journey.”

We recently learned from Tracey, a representative of Harrison’s Little Wings, about the practical help they offer to expectant mothers dealing with high-risk pregnancies. Their support includes covering childcare fees, providing emergency accommodation for partners, offering meals for the family, covering car parking fees, and taking care of yard maintenance and house cleaning. It’s unfortunate that the demand for their services is high due to the difficult situations these mothers and expectant mothers face.

The Lottery Office’s support for Harrison’s Little Wings began when we made a donation to the organisation. We were moved by their dedication and wanted to do what we could to help support families facing extreme-risk pregnancies.

Tracey also shared a heartbreaking story of a young pregnant woman who suffered a heart attack and is now brain-dead on life support. Her unborn baby is still alive but has 15 weeks of gestation left. Harrison’s Little Wings is supporting this family by providing extended practical support, including support for the woman’s mother. This is one example of their critical work to help families facing extreme-risk pregnancies.

Our donation to Harrison’s Little Wings will help provide essential support, such as extended childcare, meals, and emergency accommodation. We believe that supporting organisations like Harrison’s Little Wings can make a significant difference in the lives of families facing extreme-risk pregnancies.

We encourage everyone to consider supporting Harrison’s Little Wings in any way possible. Whether it’s through volunteering, making a donation, or spreading awareness about their cause, every little bit helps. At The Lottery Office, we are proud to support charities all over Australia and will continue to do what we can to make a difference.
