Does Italian Super Jackpot Get Taxed?

When you play our Italian Super Jackpot, we purchase a matching ticket in Italy’s renowned SuperEnalotto. Like a number of lotteries worldwide, Italy applies a tax on large winnings, including those from the SuperEnalotto.

So, if you hit the jackpot, you might wonder: does the matching SuperEnalotto in Italy get taxed? The answer is yes. However, any applicable taxes will be deducted before we collect the winnings in Italy (we pay you out the same amount we collect).

Let’s break down how much tax is deducted and what you need to know as a winner.

What is the Italian Lottery Tax?

In Italy, prizes up to €500 are completely tax free. However, lottery winnings above €500 are subject to taxation. The tax rate is currently 20% on the portion of the winnings that exceed this threshold. Winners with The Lottery Office needn’t worry about making this payment themselves. After your win you will not be required to do anything in Italy. No paperwork, no stress—the tax is deducted at the source before the money is collected so the amount paid out to you is the amount we collected after tax was deducted.
