Making a Difference: The Lottery Office Donates $80,000 to Support Young People Impacted by Cancer
Over the next two years The Lottery Office has committed to supporting teenagers in the Northern Territory impacted by cancer. A significant donation of $80,000 will be used to fund a dedicated Canteen counsellor to assist those in rural communities with face-to-face support.
This partnership aims to ensure that young Australians receive the support they need, in a way that suits their unique circumstances. Siona Hardy is Executive Director of Services and Impact at Canteen and is keen to highlight the benefits of such a large donation.
“This is going to be a game-changer, giving young people direct access to someone who understands the challenges cancer can bring… and is there to help navigate the road ahead.”
Set up in 1985, Canteen Australia offers tailored support for young people aged 12-25 who are navigating the challenges of cancer, whether it’s their own diagnosis or that of a loved one. Their services include:
- In-person and online
- Events and programs that foster connections with peers facing similar experiences.
- Access to information and resources to help patients and their families understand available services and support options.
CEO of The Lottery Office, Jaclyn Wood expressed her pride in the collaboration:
“Canteen Australia is a vital charity doing incredible work to support young people affected by cancer. We’re proud to be part of a program that makes such a meaningful difference in their lives”.
The partnership aligns with the values of The Lottery Office Charity Fund, an initiative created to support impactful local causes. At The Lottery Office, we believe that lottery isn’t just about luck—it’s about the good we can do together.
Through this fund, we provide financial assistance to charities and organizations that make a real and lasting change to people’s lives. Whether its supporting young people affected by cancer, funding programs that improve mental health, or contributing to emergency relief efforts, our goal is to give back to the communities that support us.
We’re always looking for new ways to support our community and encourage organizations in need to reach out to us. Together, we can make a difference, ensuring that our success translates into positive change for those who need it most.
