Aussie Man Barely Misses Out on $424 Million Lottery Win

It was so near and yet so far for a 51-year-old Sydneysider who missed out on a $424 million prize in the Italian Super Jackpot in October 2022. The man from Neutral Bay, who wished to remain anonymous, picked every winning number except for one in The Lottery Office’s weekend draw on October 2.

To play Italian Super Jackpot online (which is matched to Italy’s famous Superenalotto), players must pick six numbers from a pool of 1-90. There are six prize divisions, and matching just two balls is enough to get you a prize. However, to win the jackpot, you must match the first six numbers drawn. Then, the drawing of an additional 7th ‘Jolly’ ball determines the winner of the second prize, which requires five balls plus the ‘Jolly’ to be matched.

With no caps on how many times the jackpot can roll over, this lottery offers impressive jackpots three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays AEST.

When the Sydney player entered the Italian Super Jackpot, it had been steadily accumulating since May 2021, which is how the jackpot reached a whopping $424 million.

However, despite losing out on joining the millionaire’s club, the lucky player still scored a division 3 prize making him $23,000 richer. When asked what he was doing to do with his winnings, he said, “I’m planning to invest in a celebratory bottle of Jameson,” and added that the winnings would be an asset to his future.

The Lottery Office is known for offering Australian and New Zealand residents access to some of the biggest international lotteries in the world. The Sydney winner had been initially drawn to The Lottery Office after being alerted to being able to enter international lotteries.

The Lottery Office CEO Jaclyn Wood explains, “When Australians purchase tickets in our lotteries, we purchase a matching ticket in an overseas draw. When an overseas ticket wins, our customers win. We pay them the exact amount of the winnings we collect from the overseas lottery ticket.”

The Lottery Office makes it easy to play online with options to enter lotteries through our website or The Lottery Office app, available on Android and iOS. Anyone aged 18 years and over who resides in Australia or New Zealand can register an account with The Lottery Office, giving access to play in some of the biggest lotteries in the world.
