Breaking the pattern of youth homelessness

Lighthouse Foundation is a non-denominational, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to ending youth homelessness through the provision of long-term care and support in family-style homes.

The charity is determined to break the pattern of youth homelessness through its Lighthouse Model of Care (LMC). The LMC structure provides a level of support that develops a lifelong sense of belonging, the opportunity to heal and the capacity to thrive.

With an emphasis placed on building relationships and community, young people are given an environment where belonging is encouraged, trust is built, and they are challenged to thrive intellectually, physically, socially, spiritually and emotionally.

After receiving support from Lighthouse Foundation, 8 out of 10 youth do not fall back into homelessness.

An important part of the solution involves the Psychological Wellness Program, which provides therapeutic support to address the complex needs of young people impacted by the traumatic consequences of neglect, abuse, and homelessness.

To support the program’s ongoing costs, The Lottery Office has donated $15,000 to help the program deliver individual and group counselling, peer supervision and ongoing supportive training sessions.

The Lottery Office CEO Jaclyn Wood said the LMC was a key draw for the organisation to back the Lighthouse Foundation.

“The high number of young people that never experience homelessness again after receiving support from Lighthouse is a real testament to the work that they do in transforming the lives of our youth,” Ms Wood said.

“I’m proud to support an organisation that goes beyond the surface to understand the complex issues surrounding an individual’s situation and ensures they are equipped for long term success.”

The Lottery Office donates a percentage of the cost of every ticket sold to charities across the country, allowing the organisation to make a positive impact on the lives of everyday Australians.

The Lottery Office urges anyone interested in donating to Lighthouse Foundation to visit the Lighthouse Foundation website.
